Enter • Site specific installation for Brutus Rotterdam • 2024

Art institution Brutus invited Rotterdam makers to do a ‘Takeover’ of the Brutus entrance area. My work ‘Enter’ was one of the proposals that has been realized.

Entering Brutus is easy. You walk through the door, and you find yourself in a plain room with a counter from which someone welcomes you in a friendly manner. Continuing your way after the entrance area can be a challenge. A labyrinth of corridors and stairs leads you through the damaged, rough building.

‘Enter’ invited visitors to borrow a mirror at the entrance desk. The mirror could be hung around the neck. At the ceiling a dark path was installed, made of discarded wood. Wearing the mirror, you could easily imagine walking on the ragged path. The path explored the entrance space and seemed to connect the rather clean entrance to the raw spaces of Brutus.
